Heketara (Olearia rani)
Olearia or Tree Daisy is a small tree found in New Zealand's
native forests. Hardy and tolerant of wind and drought, the
tree has creamy white flowers which only produce nectar
profusely some years during September to October.
Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium)
Manuka or Tea Tree is a hardy coloniser, tolerant of wet
areas and produces small white flowers.
The nectar from the tree varies a good deal in consistency,
being influenced by soil types, weather conditions and the
intensity of flowering. Nectar is produced profusely through
November to December.
Located on the West Coast of the North Island, Marokopa
Valley is a remote coastal settlement intersected by the
Marokopa River and surrounded by steeply rising hills covered
in native forest. While the river plains are predominately
farmed with cattle and sheep, the upper areas are rich in
wildlife.
